The Libyan Chief of General Staff, Mohammed Al-Haddad, rejected Wednesday "the deviation of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC)" from its duties and its interference in politics, calling on the Presidential Council (Chief Commander of the Libyan Army) and the Prime Minister (Defense Minister) to stop these violations.

Al-Haddad said the 5+5 JMC’s interference has a bad impact on the duties of the Presidential Council and Government of National Unity, which are the only entities that issue political and military decisions.

He said that the latest statements of the JMC show it as if it has become a new power that is above the current executive authority and that its call for appointing a defense minister ignores the fact that there are only less than four months left to elections and the difficulty surrounding picking a name for the job.

"The JMC wants to dissolve the security and military apparatuses in western Libya but failed to applaud their efforts in fighting terrorism and crime." Al-Haddad added.

Meanwhile, The commander of Western Military Zone's Joint Operations Room, major general, Osama Juwaili, rejected in a statement on Tuesday the letter of the 5+5 JMC to the Presidential Council, Government of National Unity, and the UN Support Mission (UNSMIL), objecting to the demand of freezing military agreements and MoUs that were signed by the previous legitimate Government of National Accord (GNA).

The JMC's statements were rejected by Tripoli and Central Military Zones, Anti-Terrorism Force and Sirte-Jufra Operations Room.
