The Emergency Medicine and Support Centre has mourned the death of a child who lost his life after a landmine exploded in the Tajoura district east of Tripoli, while two of his friends were admitted to hospital.

In a statement, the Centre said the two wounded children from Saturday's blast are receiving care at the intensive care unit.

The children are badly injured after several fragments were scattered in their bodies. One of the children had to have his right hand amputated, according to the Centre.

During this month, the Centre has documented the killing of three people, including a child, as a result of mine explosions.

A report by Human Rights Watch last April confirmed the death of at least 130 people, mostly civilians, due to landmines and unexploded ordnance left over from heavy fighting during Khalifa Haftar's offensive on Tripoli in 2019-2020.
