Civil Society Commission in Libya

The Civil Society Commission, Tripoli branch, confirmed on Saturday that it has not stopped collecting donations for people in Gaza, adding in a statement posted on its Facebook page that no donor has been asked to stop collecting donations for Gaza.

It clarified that what was requested from associations and organizations is to adhere to fundraising regulations and to protect the campaigns, ensuring that they are conducted within the legal framework by filling out the designated forms.

It stressed that this matter is an internal Libyan issue and falls under the authority of the body that grants operating licenses. It called on the public to avoid spreading or fueling any news without verifying the contents of the directive.

The Commission also published a directive from the Presidential Council requiring institutions and organizations to follow established procedures, including obtaining prior authorization from the Civil Society Commission using the designated forms before launching any fundraising campaign.

The conditions outlined in the directive include establishing a clear mechanism based on the campaign’s goals and timeline, organizing the transfer of funds, and forming a committee from the Tripoli branch to monitor the progress of the campaigns. It also emphasizes coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure that funds are transferred legally to the intended recipients outside Libya.
