Violent clashes broke out in some areas of Tripoli on Monday night following the killing of the head of the Stability Support Force, Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, known as Ghniwa, in mysterious circumstances.

The clashes between a coalition of the Joint Force of Misrata, the 444 Fighting Brigade, the 111 Brigade and the Directorate Support Force against the Stability Support Force centred in Abu Salim and Mashrou areas, the stronghold of Ghniwa and his group.

No official statement about the reason for the clashes was released.

For his part, the spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Center, Malek Marsit, declared a state of emergency in Tripoli, in anticipation of any developments that may arise as a result of the ongoing security escalation.

Marsit called on citizens living near areas of fighting to stay in their homes and take extreme caution, noting that the Emergency Center is ready to intervene and evacuate those stranded via the number 1412.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity called on citizens living in western Tripoli areas to remain indoors for their safety.

In a related development, an official source at Mitiga Airport confirmed the start of the implementation of the airport evacuation plan and the transfer of planes to Misrata Airport as a precautionary measure amid the escalating situation.
