The heads of the permanent committees of the High Council of State (HCS) called in a joint statement for a general session, headed by the oldest member, to complete the elections of the remaining members of the Presidency Office on Wednesday, August 28 in order to preserve the unity and cohesion of the HCS.
The heads of the permanent committees held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the conditions reached by the HCS and the division resulting from the disagreement over the result of the elections for the Head of the HCS, which were held on August 6, between the Head, Mohammed Takala, and his rival, Khalid Al-Mishri.
The statement explained that the heads of the permanent committees discussed during the meeting ways to reach a solution to the deadlock reached by the crisis after Al-Mishri and Takala adhered to their positions regarding the election results, trying to reach a solution to this crisis due to the lack of jurisdiction of the judiciary to decide on this issue.
They added that the members of the HCS formed a communication committee in order to achieve consensus between the two parties to the dispute, stressing that the committee made great efforts, but did not reach a solution, which prompted them to announce their position.
Based on these efforts, the heads of the permanent committees decided to reject the invitation to hold a general session from both parties to the conflict (Al-Mishri and Takala) due to the conflict in their legitimacy, and the failure of the heads of the committees to participate in it and express their opinion on the agenda.
Both Takala and Al-Mishri - in their capacity as heads of the High Council of State - called for a general session to be held next week, and each of them confirmed that he is the legitimate head of the council.
