The Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs of the Government of National Unity, and the current Chairman of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum, Walid Al-Lafi, met with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Libya, Georgette Gagnon, as part of the preparations for holding the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues related to the trans-Mediterranean migration file and cooperation between the government and the United Nations to ensure the achievement of joint goals in this field, according to Al-Lafi’s statement.
Al-Lafi received the first copy of the report on the activity of the United Nations humanitarian mission in Libya, which includes a comprehensive assessment of the humanitarian situation in the country and the challenges the mission faces in implementing its programs and projects.
He expressed his appreciation for the vital role played by the United Nations in supporting Libya, stressing the government’s commitment to cooperate with the United Nations to ensure the success of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum and achieve the desired results, as it is a confirmation of Libya’s determination to cooperate with all parties in this file.
Meanwhile, Gagnon expressed her gratitude for the efforts made by the unity government to organize the forum which will be hosted by Tripoli on 17 July, with broad participation from relevant African and European countries, with the aim of strengthening relations and creating a strategic framework for dialogue and cooperation between Africa and Europe.
