The General Authority for Communications and Informatics of the Government of National Unity has denied “circulating reports claiming the issuance of comprehensive telecommunications and IT licenses”, stating the news is false.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the authority reaffirmed that it is the only entity legally authorized to issue, regulate, suspend, or revoke telecom and value-added service licenses. This authority is based on existing legislation, executive regulations, and relevant organizational decisions.
The statement stressed that the issuance of any licenses follows strict legal procedures based on fair competition principles, economic feasibility requirements, and national security standards, and must be approved by the Cabinet of the Government of National Unity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communications and Informatics of the rival eastern-based government announced on Tuesday that it had granted Ozone Telecommunications and Information Technology Company a license to operate a comprehensive telecom network.
According to its statement, the move is part of efforts to develop the telecom sector, improve service quality, and enhance Libya’s digital infrastructure to benefit citizens and various sectors.
Social media users circulated reports claiming that Ozone is owned by Okbah Haftar, son of Khalifa Haftar, and that he oversees the family’s finances abroad.
