Members of the Libyan Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) arrived Monday in Ghadames to start deliberations on the constitution draft articles which have been already finalized amidst a number of boycotters from Amazigh, Tuareg and Tabu.

The CDA underscored that its stay in Ghadames will last for about a month where it will vote on the constitution’s chapters before releasing the final version and putting it to a national referendum.

The Head of the CDA Ali Al-Tarhouni explained, in a televised interview, that after the completion of the constitution draft, there’s a work committee that has been recently formed of 12 members, who are supposed to come up with one document only, adding that the committee is working on finding common threads that would pave the way for agreement on all of the cases related to the constitution’s articles.

“The outcomes of the committee’s work will be proposed to the CDA, which will then start deliberating over the final authorization of the draft that is supposed to be ready before October 20.” Indicated Al-Tarhouni, adding that the CDA has decided to hold its meetings in Ghadames for no less than a week to start those deliberations, and then it will move back to Al-Bayda city in the east for the final authorization.

The CDA, which is also known as the Committee of Sixty, was elected on 20 February 2014. The first meeting took place in April 2014. The work of the committee was expected to last from March 2014 until July 2014.
