The Libyan Customs Authority announced on Sunday the seizure of a shipment of parcels containing Israeli medical equipment at the port of Tripoli. According to the Authority, the shipment was imported for a local company specialized in medical equipment, referring to its name with the initials (S.M.A).

The Authority added that after the shipment of parcels was transferred to the department headquarters and a committee was formed to inspect it carefully, it became clear that there were three boxes written in English (Made in Israel), stressing that "all necessary legal measures were taken, and the case file was referred to the Public Prosecution."

Libya prohibits importing products from the Zionist entity, according to a royal decree issued in 1957, and violators are punished with imprisonment for a period of no less than three years and no more than ten years.

Following the start of the Israeli war on Gaza in October 2023, the Libyan House of Representatives approved in its official session held in November of the same year the addition of some provisions to the 1957 law criminalizing dealings with Israel.

According to the law, the penalty for dealing with natural persons with the nationality of the Zionist entity (Israel) is imprisonment for a period of five years and a fine of 10.000 Libyan dinars.

The Ministry of Economy and Trade of the Government of National Unity also banned the supply of all goods containing pictures, symbols, slogans or flags that violate public order, or those associated with any terrorist organization or related to the Zionist entity, and prevented their circulation in the markets.
