Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah visited the city of Tarhuna on Sunday following severe flooding caused by torrential rains over the weekend.
During his visit, he announced the establishment of a Development and Reconstruction Authority for Tarhuna and surrounding areas, allocating a budget of 100 million Libyan dinars.
Dbeibah, speaking with the Tarhuna Municipal Council, stated that the new authority would oversee urgent infrastructure projects to rebuild the city as part of the government’s "Return to Life" initiative. He also directed authorities to provide a temporary facility for Tarhuna Teaching Hospital until repairs to the existing building are completed.
The Prime Minister assured affected families of immediate support, promising measures to prevent similar disasters in the future. Visiting flood-damaged areas and offering condolences to the victims' families, Dbeibah pledged continued government presence on the ground and urgent delivery of assistance.
During his visit, Dbeibah also stopped at a mass grave site in Tarhuna, referencing past atrocities. He emphasized the government's commitment to justice, stating, "We will not forget the heinous crimes committed here, and we vow to hold accountable those who supported these acts of violence."
