The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, called on Thursday on the Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri, and Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh to "release Libyans" by approving a constitutional basis for elections.

Dbeibah added at a government meeting in Tripoli that no one will believes that the agreement on one disputed article needs this much time after the HoR and HCS have deprived Libyans of elections over the last eight years.

"The Government of National Unity (GNU) and its continuity is the only guarantor to pressure parties to go to elections because otherwise, they would continue to extend for themselves. We deny the rumors of government and administrative division as all state institutions and municipalities are working under the GNU. The current differences are related to politics and can only be resolved through elections." Dbeibah said.

He said "they" have been fighting since day one in office despite the withdrawal of confidence after five months, the lack of letters of credit, the threats to cabinet ministers, an other issues, including forming a parallel government.

Dbeibah explained that the force majeure that was announced by the High National Elections Commission that prevented holding elections was due to the list of  appeals, adding that the list was a major flaw that everyone who wanted to spoil the election exploited, and indicating that the HNEC asked for a legal law for elections so it can hold the vote.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister, Huseein Al-Gotrani, said the Government of National Unity is under pressure and hoped that Libya wouldn’t be dragged into bloodshed.

Al-Gotrani reiterated that the GNU has never had the intention to plunge Libya into fighting, but rather it has always pushed for holding elections.
