The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, congratulated in a phone call the President of Tunisia, Kais Saied, on winning a new presidential term.
During the phone call, Dbeibah expressed his wishes to President Saied and the Tunisian people for continued stability and prosperity, pointing to his keenness to strengthen bilateral relations between Libya and Tunisia in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries.
Dbeibah reiterated that Libya would continue to support Tunisia in its path toward achieving development and prosperity.
The Tunisian Elections Commission announced on Monday the victory of Kais Saied, who has monopolized power in the country since 2021, for a second term after obtaining 90.69% of the votes in a presidential election in which competition was absent.
Saied received 2.4 million votes, while his imprisoned competitor, Ayachi Zemal, received 197,000 votes (7.35%), and former MP Zouhair Maghzaoui received 52,000 (1.97%). The turnout was 28.8%, the lowest since the revolution that toppled the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011.
