Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has followed up on the latest developments regarding the Libyan maritime border issue, stressing that it is a sovereign matter.
This came during a meeting attended by the Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi;, Chairman of the Land and Maritime Borders Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Al-Harari, Chairman of the National Oil Corporation, Masoud Suleiman;, and the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Rashid Boughafa.
Dbeibah emphasized that the maritime border is a sovereign issue that touches on the core of Libyan national security and cannot be addressed using technical logic separate from national political decisions.
He emphasized the need to work in complete institutional harmony, combining technical precision, legal authority, and a clear sovereign decision, according to government media.
The meeting addressed the obstacles facing the completion of demarcation and control of maritime points and the importance of coordination between technical and sovereign authorities to ensure a firm Libyan position in the face of any future regional disputes or understandings, according to the government.
For his part, chairman of the National Oil Corporation highlighted the repercussions of any legal or geographical confusion on offshore exploration and production activities, emphasizing the need to secure full legal cover for concession areas to protect Libyan resources from any external conflict.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of establishing a technical sovereign chamber was emphasized to coordinate between relevant parties, monitor the implementation of maritime demarcation and monitoring plans, and strengthen Libya's position on the regional map in accordance with the Law of the Sea and approved international agreements.
