The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbiebah, confirmed that the Government of National Unity (GNU) has adopted steps to support local administration by activating the Supreme Council for Local Administration, transferring the authorities of 12 sectors of ministries to the municipalities, and ordering to collect local revenues by municipalities, in addition to activating the file of environmental sanitation and the municipal guard.
These remarks came during Dbeibah's participation in the Development Partners Forum, held on Tuesday in Tripoli under the slogan "Local Governance and Municipal Development", in coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank, and with the participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Local Governing, the US envoy to Libya, foreign ambassadors, and the Director of the Administration Department in Arab Maghreb and Malta at the World Bank, in addition to representatives of international organizations working in Libya, as well as the relevant Libyan institutions.
The Ministry of Local Governing presented an explanation of the steps taken by the government and the challenges facing local development.
Meanwhile, representatives of international organizations and a number of ambassadors stressed the need to increase cooperation between the ministries of finance and local governing in order to support the government's measures to activate local administration, expressing their appreciation for the government's positive steps to activate the decentralization project through a group of implemented measures and decisions.
