The Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah conducted an inspection tour on Monday to follow up on the implementation of the first station at Tripoli International Airport, where he was briefed on the progress of maintenance of the main runway, connecting runways, and aircraft parking areas, stressing the need to increase the pace of achievement according to the specifications of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
According to Hakomitna media platform, Dbeibah stressed, during a meeting with the relevant authorities, the need for the airport's first station to enter trial operation after completing construction work according to the specified timetable.
The station's capacity is six million passengers annually, with a total area of 30,000 square meters, which is equivalent to twice the size of the previous airport, and the second station is scheduled to accommodate 10 million passengers annually, and will be equipped with 16 moving gates and 80 platforms for travel procedures, in addition to expanding aircraft parking lots and completing the new control tower.
As part of the airport development efforts, Dbeibah witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding to prepare studies for the project according to an investment vision, between the Libyan Investment Authority and the Ministry of Transport on the one hand, and the Qatari company "Urbacon" on the other hand.
Dbeibah was accompanied on his tour by Minister of Transport Mohammed Al-Shahoubi, Director of the Transport Projects Implementation Authority Sami Al-Abash, Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects Mustafa Al-Manea, and officials of the implementing company.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Chairman of the Libyan Investment Authority Mahmoud Ali, Qatari Ambassador to Libya Khaled Al-Dosari, along with a number of engineers and officials from both the Libyan and Qatari sides.
