Dbeibah

The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, announced immediate measures aimed at reducing the impact of parallel government spending on the devaluation of the Libyan dinar. He also unveiled precautionary steps to enhance transparency in development and partnership contracts within the oil sector.

This came during an expanded meeting held at the National Oil Corporation, attended by the head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, according to a government statement published on its Facebook page.

The measures also target reducing government spending in foreign currency on Libyan missions abroad, the statement added.

Previously, Dbeibah had called on Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour to investigate the disbursement of 59 billion dinars as a result of parallel government spending.

Meanwhile, Libya Al-Ahrar TV cited government sources confirming that Dbeibah issued a decision to form a joint committee from two oversight bodies to review contracts of the Arkenu Oil Company.

The sources did not disclose the number or names of the committee members but clarified that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of oversight institutions. The committee includes representatives from the Audit Bureau and the Administrative Control Authority. If violations are discovered, the case will be referred to the Attorney General’s Office.

The committee’s formation comes amid growing accusations against Arkenu Oil Company over oil smuggling and signing corrupt contracts, prompting calls from Libyan politicians for the Attorney General to investigate the company’s activities.
