The Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has welcomed the UN Security Council's resolution to extend the mandate of UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) one more year, till October 2023.

On Twitter, Dbeibah said his government supports all strategies to strengthen UNSMIL to ensure the effectiveness of its efforts to support political solutions and issues related to the democratic transition in Libya, adding that the  Security Council's call for elections based on a constitutional basis with adherence to the road map clearly "confirms and means that the current executive authority is an essential part in the last transitional phase before going to elections".

"We reaffirm the progress in implementing the road map confirmed by the Security Council resolution to reach the goal of ending the transitional periods and holding elections based on our people's support to change the current political reality, and in support of the outcomes of international conferences and forums that call for a political solution in Libya. We call on all international parties to respect the Security Council's resolution regarding Libya's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity". He said.

Dbeibah renewed his pledge to the Libyan people to protect their national unity, and achieve peace and national reconciliation through his government's acceptance to be part of an expanded national dialogue.
