First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, stressed the necessity of respecting Libya’s sovereignty and national institutions, and preventing any foreign interference in its internal affairs, especially regarding sovereign institutions such as the Central Bank.
Al-Nuwairi said that any meeting between a foreign ambassador and officials from sovereign institutions, outside of established diplomatic frameworks, raises serious questions about its motives and implications. He stressed that such actions are unacceptable, constitute a violation of diplomatic norms, and amount to interference in Libya’s internal affairs.
Al-Nuwairi pointed out that no Libyan ambassador has ever met with the governor of another country’s central bank, making such actions a dangerous precedent that must be addressed.
He reaffirmed that while UN Security Council resolutions may impact the political process, they do not diminish Libya’s sovereignty. He emphasized that the will of the Libyan people and the decisions of their institutions are the determining factors in shaping the country’s future, free from any attempts to impose guardianship or unjustified interference.
Al-Nuwairi called on all Libyan state institutions to uphold their independence and reject any form of external influence or control to preserve the state’s dignity and national sovereignty. He also urged the rejection of any interventions that could affect sovereign institutions or compromise Libya’s identity and stability.
Al-Nuwairi said that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is solely a support and assistance mission, with no executive or sovereign authority within Libya. He stressed that UNSMIL must adhere to its designated role without overstepping or interfering in the country’s decisions and institutions.
