The spokesman of the Derna Shura Council, Mohammed Al-Mansouri, said Khalifa Haftar’s forces have now gotten the city under a very tight and crippling siege, disallowing Derna residents to obtain medicines and treating them very badly at the checkpoints.
Al-Mansouri told Press Solidarity that the Derna Shura Council won’t remain silent toward such a humiliating treatment, renewing the support for the council for the state of institutions and for the government that all Libyans agree on as well as for the Libyan scholars.
“What Haftar’s militias are doing in Derna such as ticking people off, besieging them and kidnapping their youth at the checkpoints, is no more than crimes that cannot be ignored", denouncing at the same time the silence of the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government.
“The PC’s silence says that it is an accomplice in the crime of Haftar’s militias and it is satisfied with them.” Al-Mansouri added.
Haftar’s militias have been besieging Derna for quite long time coupling it with recurrent airstrikes, the latest of which was Monday morning when they bombed a mountainous district overlooking the city without any reported casualties.
