Derna Shura Council has refuted reaching a truce with Khalifa Haftar’s militias that included turning the council’s fighters in to Haftar’s militias in a two-week span as was announced by media outlets affiliated with Dignity Operation.

The head of the media office at Derna Shura Council, Mohammed Idris Taher, confirmed they had agreed to go into negotiations about a truce supervised by Abdelbasit Igtet, who was a candidate for the Prime Minister position, being a neutral party.

Taher added that the negotiation would be about a ceasefire in Derna, Benghazi and Ajdabia and an end to the airstrikes on Derna as well as opening the road and breaking the siege imposed on it, besides releasing the Derna detainees from Haftar’s prisons.

“There is no item in the negotiation scheme that has to do with us turning ourselves and our weapons in to any party.” Said Taher.
News websites reported previously that a truce brokered by Abdelbasit Igtet that included turning the council’s fighters in to Haftar’s militias in return of a ceasefire and an end to airstrikes on Derna.

Some websites reported that Saad Habeel, a leader in Derna Shura Council, agreed on this truce, which was refuted by Taher who confirmed that Habeel did not speak to the press about this issue, pointing out that the council did not negotiate about handing in the fighters nor weapons.
