The Commander of Omer Al-Mukhtar operations room of Dignity Operation, Col. Salem Al-Rafadi, has been wounded in a traffic accident near Al-Azayat district, south of Derna, while on his way to Martuba town, 27 km south of the city.

Medical sources from Al-Bayda hospital, where he received treatment, confirmed that his health condition is stable and that he had suffered first-degree fractures.

Libya Al-Khabar news website quoted local reports as saying that Al-Rafadi’s traffic accident was an assassination attempt following the recent military incidents in the area under his command.

Dignity Operation supporters held Al-Rafadi responsible for the Sunday attack of Derna Shura Council’s fighters on three checkpoints, which left four Dignity Operation fighters dead and others wounded.

Earlier, Al-Rafadi announced his fighters’ full readiness to storm Derna and take control of the city, saying that all positions of Derna Shura Council would be bombed by the air force. He also threatened to cut food and medical supplies to Derna, accusing its residents of supporting the Shura Council.
