The Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belqasem Khalifa Haftar, and the representative of the Italian airways ITA, Francesco Brescia, announced the resumption of direct flights between Benghazi and both Rome and Milan starting in early June.

On Monday, Belqasem received a high-level Italian delegation at the Fund’s headquarters in Benghazi. The delegation included the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, Consul General Francesco Luigi, the President of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, Pierluigi Palma, as well as diplomats and representatives from Italian aviation companies, ground handling, air traffic control, and airport services companies.

According to a statement on the Fund’s Facebook page, the meeting reviewed the outcomes of previous visits and discussed the final preparations for launching the direct flight route between Benghazi, Rome, and Milan.

The launch, set for early June, was officially announced during the meeting by the Director General of the Fund and the ITA representative.

Italian airways had resumed flights between Tripoli and Rome on January 12 after a ten-year suspension.
