The Head of the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government, Fayez Al-Sirraj, said Libya’s military command must always work under the umbrella of the political leadership as the rest of the world does, adding that the state political regime can never be tied to certain persons or individualized because such a thing is foreign to the democratic regimes and those that look up to democracy.

In an interview with Al-Ahram Al-Arabi Egyptian newspaper, Al-Sirraj said that he had explained to Khalifa Haftar - when he met him in Al-Marj – how crucial it is to implement the political agreement, which was based on separating the state powers, adding that he told Haftar it is not possible to allow the executive and legislative powers continue to overlap.

“Article (8) was not invented by me nor by the Presidential Council but was included in the political agreement.” He exclaimed.

“All the authorities of the high-ranking military, civilian, and security posts that are accredited in Libya’s laws and legislation must go to the Prime Ministry of the government once the political agreement is approved.” Article (8) of the Libyan political agreement states.

This article is totally rejected by Khalifa Haftar and his loyalists as they constantly call for removing it from the agreement and add a ready–made post that would fit Haftar’s needs for a wide spectrum of authorities and a post that is immune from any powers.
