Egypt welcomed on Friday the House of Representatives' (HoR) approval of the 13th constitutional amendment, according to which presidential and parliamentary elections will be held. This welcoming statement came one day after the amendment's publication in the Libyan official gazette.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry described the HoR's step as important in terms of fulfilling the necessary framework for holding the Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible under the supervision of a neutral executive authority that upholds the best interest of Libya.

Egypt also hiped that the House of Representatives and the High Council of State (HCS) would complete their efforts that aim at preparing election laws, leading to their approval by the HoR, reiterating its support for the Libyan-Libyan solution track, praising the efforts of the HoR, which it described as the only elected legislative body in Libya, and those of the HCS.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also rejected any external interventions in Libya or Libyan institutions, according to what the Skhirat Agreement entailed, calling on all parties involved in the Libyan crisis to abide by these irreplaceable factors and principles. It reiterated the necessity of stopping foreign interference in Libya and the exit of all foreign forces, fighters and mercenaries, renewing its support for the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in this regard.
