Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed on Monday that the success of Egypt and Turkey in achieving security and stability in Libya was a model to be emulated for resolving disputes in the region, praising the cooperation of the two countries on Libya and a number of regional files.
Abdelatty said in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan at the headquarters of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo that there was an agreement between the two countries on the need to enhance consultations on the Libyan file, as stability and enhancing security were the foundations for settling existing disputes.
"We also agreed on the importance of preserving the unity of Libya and Libyan ownership of the solution, and I expressed, for my part, our aspiration to hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible in a way that allows for the reunification of Libyan institutions and the exit of foreign forces, mercenaries and fighters from Libyan territory in implementation of international resolutions to preserve Libya's unity, security, sovereignty and stability."
Abdelatty pointed out that he had confirmed to his Turkish counterpart his welcome of the recent Turkish statements about his readiness to work on resolving differences with Syria in a way that preserves Syria's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as enables Syria to confront the threat of terrorism and work to defeat it as it represents a threat to stability in the region, noting that Egypt and Turkey, in their regional role, "bear responsibility for security, stability and peace in this region."
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also confirmed that he spoke with his Turkish counterpart about ways to enhance bilateral cooperation relations, in addition to a number of regional and international files, especially in Libya, combating terrorism and reducing the intensity of conflict and tension in the region, indicating the two countries' readiness for constructive cooperation to preserve the security of the region.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the region was witnessing a ring of fire, renewing his country's support for the unity and stability of Libya and for holding presidential and parliamentary elections.
