The Egyptian leadership, at a given moment, will have to intervene militarily in Libya to maintain its national security, a former Egyptian diplomat has predicted.
Former Assistant Foreign Minister of Egypt for Arab Affairs Ahmed Al-Qawisni said the intervention would protect the borders and Libya's oil installations.
"When there are Egyptian troops in Libya, the western countries would think twice before intervening," he said, adding that Egypt's move in Libya is aimed to protect itself.
He admitted that his country provides military support to rogue General Khalifa Haftar to ensure that oil ports and fields are under control.
"Egypt will not let the oil ports be taken away from the Libyan people," he said while referring to the support his country is providing to Khalifa Haftar.
He claimed that the presence of Egyptian troops in Libya would prevent the western countries from attacking it.
