Egyptian sources on Monday revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Cairo will proceed with the path of “imposing” its “sovereign” decision to demarcate its western borders with Libya in the Mediterranean, through quick upcoming measures.

The same sources, which opted to remain anonymous, stated that Cairo will take quick measures to impose a status quo strategy, including announcing the start of exploration and everything that would support the same path.

The Egyptian authorities consider the Turkish call addressed to Egypt and Libya to negotiate an end to the dispute over the maritime borders, was nothing more than a media message and an attempt to balance between political calls and realistic requests, the sources added.

According to their assessment, the sources reported that Ankara will not clash with Cairo’s position because of this file, and this will lead to an Egyptian-Turkish agreement in the medium term, so that negotiations can take place quickly.
