Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher El-Sunni, has met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, at the UN headquarters in New York.
The meeting took place on the eve of Tetteh’s scheduled briefing to the UN Security Council, where she outlined the results of her recent consultations and meetings in Libya since taking up her post.
In a statement posted on X, El-Sunni described the meeting as productive and timely, saying it focused on supporting national efforts toward a comprehensive political solution to Libya’s ongoing crisis.
According to El-Sunni, the talks also covered pressing economic and humanitarian challenges, stressing the importance of the UN mission’s role in backing Libyan-led solutions and supporting local initiatives aimed at ending the transitional period and paving the way for national elections.
The meeting also touched on recent regional developments and their impact on Libya and its neighbours.
El-Sunni underscored the importance of promoting stability in Libya, which he said would have wider benefits for the entire region.
