Several members of the High Council of State (HCS) called on HCS, House of Representatives (HoR) and the Presidential Council (PC) to quit the political process and let Libyans take it from here on.

"They should all announce a date for election of an entity that represents all Libyans." The members said in a statement Saturday.

"The public, political bodies, and civil societies should all press the now-operating councils to leave aside their own benefits and set a date for the elections in no later than March 31, 2019." The statement reads.

It adds that the newly legislative body which will replace the councils should reset the scene by hunting institutions and ending political conflicts.

"Though positive, the amendment of the Libyan Political Agreement will only lead to more failure like the previous attempts." The members explained.

They also said that all parties mustn't think of their personal gains but must look into options to save the country, which they said is having a rough period that left ordinary citizens struggle to make a living, not to mention the lack of security.

"Now the armed groups are controlling the state institutions and the decision making in the country." They indicated.

"Since (No to Extension Movement) in late 2013, Libya has become a kind of a bounty for the militias and those who are behind them on the political scene as well as on the media." The members further explained.

They said recent clashes' aftermath could lead to the collapse of the remainder of the state institutions and thus send the political, constitutional and economic efforts into a no-go.

29 HCS members from different Libyan cities signed the statement titled "Returning Trust to the Public."
