The coastal road in western Tripoli is likely to be reopened in the next few days, Janzour Mayor Faraj Aban has declared.
Aban said in a press statement that checkpoint 17 in Janzour and the eastern gate of Zawiya city are expected to be reopened following an initiative from his city to the UN-proposed government.
“Janzour and Zawiya municipalities met on Tuesday with the Ministry of Interior to put the necessary security measures in place for the reopening of the coastal road,” Aban pointed out.
He said the initiative proposes that the Ministry of Interior provides support to the security directorates in Janzour, Zawiya and Maya to protect the coastal road and prevent security violations in the region.
The coastal road that links Tripoli to Zawiya was closed on September 19 after one month of reopening due to the renewal of abduction cases in crime-hit region of Wirshiffana.
