The European Union and its member states have welcomed the formation of Libya’s new Advisory Committee, describing it as a significant step toward political stability.
The committee, announced by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Tuesday, consists of 20 Libyan figures selected for their expertise. It will play a key role in the UN-led political process, working towards national elections and institutional unification.
In a joint statement, EU diplomats praised UNSMIL’s efforts to ensure a balanced composition of the committee and called on all Libyan stakeholders to support its mission and shield it from political interference.
“The committee can contribute to a unified national vision, crucial for Libya’s long-term stability and prosperity,” the statement read.
The committee will hold its first meeting next week in Tripoli as part of UNSMIL’s broader initiative to facilitate political dialogue and national reconciliation.
