The European Union’s Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, met with Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah in Tripoli on Tuesday to discuss efforts to support Libya’s economic stability and improve cooperation on migration and border management.
In a statement shared on social media, Ambassador Orlando said he was “honoured” to be received by the Prime Minister and described the meeting as constructive.
The two sides reportedly agreed on the importance of maintaining stability in Libya through dialogue and reconciliation, as well as continuing engagement with the United Nations-led political process.
We explored how the EU can support government efforts to stabilise the economy and boost growth across the country, ensuring appropriate oversight, Orlando said.
They also discussed strengthening cooperation on migration management in what he described as a “humane and sustainable” way, while ensuring full respect for human rights.
Prime Minister Dbeibah reiterated Libya’s firm stance against irregular migration, calling for a unified international position to criminalise parallel state spending in the country.
