The European Union’s Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has announced substantial progress in managing migration flows to EU countries through the implementation of a voluntary return program in collaboration with Libya.
Orlando reported a “productive meeting” in Tripoli with Mohamed Al-Marhani, head of the technical committee tasked with developing a national strategy to address illegal migration and improve border security, on Sunday.
In a post on X, the EU ambassador noted discussions on expanding a human rights-based partnership. Key shared goals with the EU include enhancing Libya’s capacity to manage its land borders, combat human trafficking, and increase the voluntary return of migrants to their home countries.
According to Orlando, the voluntary return rate has surpassed 80% annually, stating, “We are making great strides together.”
