The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Libya’s security sector and implementing the 2020 ceasefire agreement.

EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, announced the launch of the second phase of the “EULINK” project, aimed at strengthening security arrangements in ceasefire areas.

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, Orlando emphasized that the EU remains a “committed partner” to Libya in bolstering the security sector and ensuring effective ceasefire enforcement.

He noted the successful reopening of the coastal road in 2021, which has remained secure “thanks to the initial phase of the EULINK project,” emphasizing that the phase provided critical infrastructure, joint training, and operational support for police forces from both western and eastern Libya.

The second phase, Orlando added, focuses on enhancing the reunification of institutions and improving the capacity of military forces in the ceasefire zone, with special emphasis on border monitoring in southern Libya.

The EULINK project has already played a key role in establishing security gates, training facilities, and conducting courses in community policing and emergency response. Additionally, the project has supplied ambulances and first-aid equipment to bolster regional emergency services.
