A European official expressed on Tuesday the desire and readiness of the European Commission to strengthen cooperation with the Libyan side, and to provide the necessary assistance and support to the competent Libyan authorities to confront the challenges they face by illegal immigration.

The Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdulrahman Khamada, received at the Ministry’s headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, a delegation from the European Commission headed by Ruth Kaufman, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Office in the Commission’s External Action Department.

The delegation is on an official three-day visit to Libya, as Kaufman confirmed that this visit is considered an evaluation to find out the activities and programs implemented by the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) in Libya, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting of the Libyan official with his European counterpart is a continuation of the discussions and efforts made by the Government of National Unity to address the illegal immigration file.
