Finance Minister Khaled Al-Mabrouk has affirmed that the procedures for monetizing the value allocated to the South Refinery and cooking gas project are nearing completion.

Al-Mabrouk attended a meeting that grouped Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Health in charge, Ramadan Abu Janah, President of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, and Chairman of the National Oil Corporation Mustafa Sanalla to discuss the latest developments of the project.

For his part, Abu Janah described the South Refinery project as

a vital and strategic scheme. "This huge project will permanently address the fuel shortage crisis and provide many direct and indirect job opportunities for young people in the south after completing its implementation."

He also expressed his keenness to resume suspended projects and follow up on their functioning as required.

The Government of National Unity had issued a decision to establish an oil refinery and extract cooking gas from the burnt gases in the El Sharara oil field in the southern region. It also ordered the maintenance and development of the infrastructure of the Waha Oil Company.
