The former President of the High Council of State (HCS) Abdulrahman Sewehli said that turning a blind eye on Hafter's behaviour in continuing to use violence to achieve political goals would generate a counter-escalation.

During his meeting with Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino on Monday, Sewehli reiterated his rejection of what he called using the method of "sharing the cake", in dealing with the future of the Libyan people, as was the case in the Abu Dhabi meeting.

In his remarks on Sarraj's recent meeting with Khalifa Hafter, Sewehli said "This logic - sharing the cake - gives a clear message that the use of force to gain power is acceptable, underlining that this was the matter that he has been trying to avoid since 2014.

He also called on the international community, through the Italian ambassador, to support the democratic process that guarantees the civil state, and to push towards holding parliamentary elections within months, while the current government continues to proceed its work, emphasizing his categorical rejection of holding presidential elections at present.
