France has reaffirmed its support for a political settlement in Libya that paves the way for a sustainable democratic transition, culminating in free and fair elections.
The message was conveyed by French Ambassador to Libya, Mustapha Maharaj, during talks with Presidential Council (PC) head Mohamed Menfi in Tripoli on Monday.
According to the PC’s media office, Maharaj passed on greetings from French President Emmanuel Macron and underscored the strong historical ties between the two nations.
He reiterated France’s commitment to backing Libya’s political roadmap and the efforts of the PC. Maharaj also stressed the importance of maintaining the October 2025 ceasefire, calling it a cornerstone of the country's stability.
Discussions also covered bilateral cooperation, economic and military developments, and the potential reactivation of Libya’s Supreme Financial Committee — a move aimed at strengthening oversight of public spending and ensuring transparent, equitable distribution of the country’s natural resources.
