The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault and his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, arrived Saturday afternoon in Tripoli in a classified visit, where they held a meeting with the UN-proposed government, headed by Fayez Al-Sirraj, under heightened security measures in Tripoli Naval Base close to Mitiga airport.

The Deputy Head of the UN-proposed government, Ahmed Mitig, said in a presser following the talks with the two FMs that they discussed the knowhow of training military and security personnel as well as the cooperation in fighting the illegal immigration phenomenon.

‘We discussed the possibility of breathing life into the former conventions and deals between Libya and France and Germany and the two FMs informed us that the European Union support will cover the whole upcoming period.” Mitig added.

France’s FM, Jean-Marc Ayrault, said that enhancing the security and the economic situations in Libya is equally an enhancement of security situations in neighboring and European countries, indicating that his country and Germany represent the European Union, which supports Skhirat agreement.

“We hope that the Skhirat agreement plants its roots deeply into Libya’s soil very soon, calling on Libyans all over the country to stand together and rally around the UN-proposed government.” The French FM remarked.

In addition, the Germen FM, Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the ongoing situation in Libya cannot allow more space for more conflict and fight, reassuring that Libyans can overcome these hardships all by themselves.
