The cousin of the slain Libyan dictator, Muamar Gaddafi, Ahmed Gaddaf Al-Dam has disclosed that thousands of military soldiers who were part of Gaddafi’s brigades have joined Khalifa Haftar’s militias.

Al-Dam said Sunday, in a statement to the London-based newspaper, Asharq Al-Awsat, that he is holding meetings with what he described as “yesterday’s enemies” in Libya and outside it, pointing out that he is carrying out dialogues between his “leaders and their jailers” according to his statement.

He added that once the Tobruk-based House of Representatives endorses the UN-proposed government, he will pledge allegiance to it, indicating that he does not have any relationship with the Head of the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government, Fayez Al-Serraj.

“Gaddafi loyalists can never be marginalized by anyone; they are the strongest link in the Libyan scene.” Al-Dam added, indicating that what came out of Vienna talks last week was a “farce” in which many Libyan figures, including Fayez Al-Serraj, were used as “decoration” in the international summit.

He added that the US Department of the Treasury and the EU’s sanctions slammed on the Tobruk-based HoR’s Speaker, Aqilah Saleh, are unacceptable, illegitimate, and ill-mannered, saying they go at odds with the simplest Democracy rules and they are ineffective, as he described.
