The Government of National unity (GNU) disclosed Saturday that it has agreed to establish a solar energy complex to generate electricity, with a capacity of 25,000 megawatts.

Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah oversaw the signing ceremony that the Special Economic Zone (Topeka) and the Crepe Group Company specialized in renewable energy, inked in between.

The accord allows the company to plan, engineer, construct, and operate a solar photovoltaic facility to generate electricity.

According to the GNU information office, the firm will cover all the investment costs, which include the construction of a complex, noting that the project would be funded outside the state budget.

The government said its goal is to achieve electricity self-sufficiency and to export surplus energy abroad.
