The Government of National Unity (GNU) held a meeting on Thursday at the Prime Minister's Office to review progress on the seventh national population census and related surveys. The session grouped the Ministers of Planning and State for Cabinet Affairs alongside key officials from the General Information Authority, Civil Status Authority, and the Statistics and Census Authority.

During the meeting, the Census Authority's technical team presented updates on the project's execution, including the division of Libya into census areas based on international standards and the completion of an economic survey of active service, trade, and industry institutions.

According to the "Hakomitna" platform, the project, which includes counting families, buildings, residences, and establishments within each municipality, is the first such effort since 2006. The authority confirmed that all technical and administrative preparations are on track as per the approved schedule.

The Minister of Planning highlighted that the census will provide comprehensive data on the Libyan and foreign populations and households, in collaboration with the Civil Status Authority. It will also compile detailed information on homes, establishments, and facilities, contributing to a comprehensive database that will support state decision-making and service delivery based on actual population density.

The meeting also addressed the findings of a committee reviewing and updating the 1963 Statistics and Census Law, aiming to enhance the operations of the Statistics and Census Authority.
