The Government of National Unity (GNU) has welcomed the Algerian position expressed by its representative during the recent UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Libya.

This came during a phone call received by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf Wednesday from the Libyan acting Foreign Minister Taher Al-Baour, according to a statement issued by the Algerian Foreign Ministry.

Al-Baour hailed the "correctness and clarity" of this position in support of the Libyan people and their legitimate aspirations to restore security and stability within the framework of national unity.

During the Security Council meeting, the Algerian representative stressed that the solution to the Libyan crisis “must be peaceful and political, saying it should come through a Libyan-Libyan track under UN auspices, leading to free, fair and transparent elections that reunite all segments of the Libyan people and ensure the unification of its institutions as well as the fulfillment of the people's aspirations.
