A delegation from the Government of National Unity discussed political and economic issues of mutual interest with senior officials from the US Department of State, with a primary focus on developing the energy sector and enhancing cooperation between Libya and the United States.

According to a post on Hakomitna Facebook page Thursday, the meeting also addressed strategic issues, notably efforts to boost oil and gas production and plans to increase gas supplies to meet growing global demand.

The two sides also discussed regional and international political and economic developments and related challenges. The Libyan delegation emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, disclosure, and improving resource management to drive national development.

Attendees from the US side included Timothy Lenderking, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs, Richard Norland, Special Envoy for Libya, Joshua Harris, Deputy Assistant Secretary for North Africa, and David Linfield, Libya Desk Officer at the State Department.

From the Libyan side, participants included Acting Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Abdulsadiq, Mustafa Al-Manea, Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects and Board Member of the Libyan Investment Authority, and the Deputy Minister of Economy, who also chairs the Renewable Energy Holding Company.

The Government of National Unity’s delegation has been in Washington for several days, during which it held meetings with officials from both the State and Treasury Departments, with discussions largely focused on the economic situation.
