United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has stressed that he is "striving to avoid the worst-case scenario in Libya", calling on all political parties to agree on holding elections.

Guterres said, during a press conference in New York on the occasion of the beginning of the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdulaye Batily, officially taking over from the capital, Tripoli, that "there is an intention for the German Foreign Ministry to revive the Berlin Conference, as it is the most useful international tool to avoid the worst scenario in Libya and reach a possible solution to the crisis,” according to the Libyan News Agency.

He said that "it is difficult to know the biggest challenge that Bathily will face in his mission in Libya”.

He underscored "the importance of continuing the ceasefire agreement and maintaining stability at any cost.

He emphasized "The need to quickly reach an agreement between the House of Representatives and the High Council of the State, to allow for legal changes to take place, which are necessary to conduct the elections.
