The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has expressed keenness on supporting Libyans' choice for a way out of the current crisis and achieve security and stability.

These remarks came in a meeting for Guterres and the Libyan ambassador to the United Nations, Taher El Sonni, who said on Twitter that they had discussed the latest developments in Libya and the challenges facing holding elections.

El Sonni said they had also reviewed ways by which the UN could support Libya to hold fair and free elections after agreeing on a new roadmap, in addition to the UN support for national reconciliation and transitional justice, referring to the important role of the UN peace building committee in this regard.

He also reiterated the need for supporting the will of the Libyan people to decide on  their fate without foreign agenda, urging for national consensus and assurances of allowing all Libyans, without exclusion, to be part of the political process. He also called for the end of foreign presence in Libya.
