Members of the High Council of State (HCS) Abdul Rahman Al-Sweihli, Mustafa Al-Tariki, Naima Al-Hami and Youssef Al-Ahyool appealed at the Supreme Court what they said the unconstitutionality of the House of Representatives' (HoR) Resolution No.2 of 2021, regarding appointing Al-Siddiq Al-Sour as the Libyan Attorney General.
On the other hand, members of the Public Prosecution Office of the Attorney General’s Office, the Office of the Public Prosecutor of Tripoli, and the prosecutions affiliated with it warned against compromising the judicial authority or its personnel, especially Al-Sour.
The members said that the constitutional appeal to Resolution No.2 of 2021 will have dire consequences. They indicated that this appeal hinders the efforts of the Attorney General in combating corruption, terrorism and usurping of state and people's properties, developing the professional capabilities of prosecutors and providing material and logistical capabilities such as headquarters and transportation, which facilitated the performance of tasks despite the short period of Al-Sour's tenure.
The statement described those appealing Al-Sour's mandate as "paid trumpets", adding that their arguments are flimsy and that the real purpose behind their call is to undermine those efforts that exposed their corruption and limited their false authority.
