The High Council of State (HCS) has issued a strong warning over an unofficial gathering reportedly being organised by Libyan figures in the United States, cautioning that the event threatens to undermine the country’s political process.
In a statement released on Friday, the Council, led by Mohamed Takala, stressed that the meeting carries no official status and is not sanctioned by any governmental institution.
It accused organisers of attempting to "bypass legitimacy and impose a de facto reality" that contradicts the foundations of Libya’s political framework.
The HCS further clarified that the meeting is being arranged by Libyan nationals residing in the US under the umbrella of a non-governmental organisation, which it said holds no representative authority on behalf of the Libyan state or its institutions.
A key focus of the Council's concern is the involvement of Khalid al-Mishri, the former HCS head who, according to the statement, no longer holds a legitimate seat in the Council due to internal decisions and judicial rulings. It rejected what it described as efforts to "grant legitimacy to imposters."
"The outcomes of this meeting are not binding in any way," the Council said, urging both local and international stakeholders to respect the decisions of Libya’s legitimate institutions and adhere to the rule of law and national sovereignty.
