The Head of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR), Youssef Al-Agouri, said that Turkey is an important country on the international scene, expressing his aspiration to support stability in Libya.
Al-Agouri's statement came during a meeting with the Turkish Consul, Sarkan Karmanlioglu, at the headquarters of the Council's office in Benghazi, according to the HoR's spokesman, Abdullah Blehiq.
He also explained that the HoR formed a committee for Libyan-Turkish parliamentary friendship headed by member of the House of Representatives, Al-Salihin Abdul Nabi, noting that the House of Representatives called on the Turkish side to activate the friendship group in the Turkish National Assembly for Libya in order to enhance parliamentary cooperation at the political level.
Regarding the economic aspect, Al-Agouri, renewed his invitation to Turkish companies to work in Libya and complete their projects, extending his thanks to the Turkish side for the assistance provided during Storm Daniel that hit eastern Libya in September 2023.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Consul stressed the depth of relations between the two countries, adding that Turkey always stands with the unity and stability of Libya and wants to see Libya a strong and prosperous country.
He revealed that the Turkish consulate will open in its new headquarters in the middle of this year in Benghazi, and that visas will be granted directly from Benghazi to facilitate travel procedures for Libyan citizens, calling for facilitating Libyan visa procedures according to Blehiq.
The Consul also expressed his happiness with the return of direct Turkish Airlines flights to and from Benghazi after an absence of years. Regarding the educational field, the Consul confirmed that a delegation from Turkish universities visited the University of Benghazi to offer scholarships to Libyan students, including undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee invited Turkish businessmen to visit Libya.
