The Head of the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA), Al-Jilani Erhuma, has urged the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aqila Saleh, to swiftly tackle the unfinished constitutional work, saying the HoR should present this issue in the upcoming session so the final stages of the constitution draft process can be accomplished.

Erhuma said this step is needed so that Libyans can be able to have their say in the constitutional referendum on the draft that was submitted on July 29, 2017.

The Head of the CDA referred to the Hurghada-hosted constitutional committee meetings' results of 19 January and 12 February, which said there would be a constitutional referendum to establish a constitutional basis for elections.

Meanwhile, CDA members called on the UN envoy to Libya in last February to work on constitutional referendum to be held on December 24 instead of elections being held on that date, proposing to push elections till after the constitutional basis was achieved.
